Has Anyone Vtwin swapped a G29 or maybe a G22 yet?
A G22 from 03-07 and a G29 from 07+ seem to have a similar rear engine cradle. The engine mount is different though, but both have the same front cradle mount.
It seems when I measured the height of the vanguard into my lifted cart, it looks tight, as if it’s going to hit the top of the engine. Now if the front of the cradle is lowered a bit, it looks like it would work perfect. I looked at Vegas Carts swap kit and didn’t see in the pics a setup that drops the front of the cradle. Jake’s makes a vtwin big block swap kit and it shows a bracket that drops the front cradle down a few inches but costs twice as much as Vegas swap kit and they look to use a duster clutch setup. So has anyone done a G29 vtwin swap yet? How much clearance do you have and what lift kit? Did you have to drop or modify your front cradle mount if you don’t have the Jakes kit? |

The Vegas clone kits typically clear stock carts, but the twin kits may not. You can gain a lot of room by using a remote airbox of some kind on many twins. I think the idea behind the new 625 engine is to clear stock carts with an engine similar size/power to a twin. If you do some digging with google you can find builds here, they are here, just hard to find specific ones. Even my clone in a G9 only has less than 2" clearance to the frame tube behind the seat when the suspension is compressed. That tube hangs lower than the seat. I could move the engine forward but would have to relocate the generator/starter above it or something so depends on your setup.

I’ve will be starting the install of the vanguard in my g22 tomorrow night. I know you posted in my build thread so I’ll be sure to post pics in there so you can see the engine cradle and clearances.

Thank you Ryan, I think you bought a cpp kit. That kit may have a drop kit for the engine as you have the center open on a G22 cradle if I recall. My G29 has a flat plate across which is level with the cradle. Either way I’m going to be following your build to help with mine

Re: Has Anyone Vtwin swapped a G29 or maybe a G22 yet?
Yes sir it is a 2015 grom. This one is stock in the pic. I had another one with bolt ons, on the stock engine and it would do 79 mph after a good distance with no head wind. I sold it as my son works a lot of hours and it just sat. I took most of the go fast parts off of it to get it sold. We had a group of about 20 bikes here, mainly groms and about 5-z125s. They are fun bikes.
I just bought the Vegas G29 v twin swap kit today to get the cyber Monday discount. Saved around $47. I called Geoff about the kit, as not too many g29s have been swapped yet or posted about their swap, and Geoff said they haven’t sold a lot of the vtwin install kits either but has sold some. I already have a 16 & 18 vanny that I didn’t pay much for them, so a v twin swap was the cheaper route to go and 30mph is my top mph for now I want. So I guess I’ll be one of the first to post up a v twin swap into a G29 yami using their kit. I’ll start a new thread about the swap and post a link in this thread when I start it. |

Yeah Geoff said its for a 23 and will need modifications to fit the 16 or 18.
I said F it and got the kit anyhow. I’ll cut, shorten n weld to make it work if its not too much trouble. I’ll post up once the swap begins but..... I’m debating on the predator 22 now for the swap |
