Running rich with a 2 barrel
My 16 vanny has a 2 barrel upgrade. Im using 2 spacers from the intake, elbow, carb, another elbow, then the filter sits on top. Im wondering if the extra elbow is causing an overly rich condition. Runs good but plugs are black and Im noticing soot from the exhaust. And Im currently in NJ and its cool outside so it should be lean if anything. I have both black knobs on the carb all the way to the left. Think ordering this adaptor and filter would work better?

Re: Running rich with a 2 barrel
If you could run on the road where there is no dirt you could take a test run with it removed, but I don't know what conditions you have there. Then read the plug see if it changed. That does look like a nice filter setup in the links.
On my clone I used a filter out of a car, a chevy cavilier 4 cylinder. I cut the hose down (that came with the airbox) and used pvc fittings and ferncos to get it hooked to carb. Then I ran 2" pvc to the front of the cart for cleaner air. So it is much like a remote filter on a tractor. I could unhook the 2" pipe and see what it does but have a hard time thinking it is restrictive. The tube goes under the floor and angles up near the steering box under the front cubby and ends. |

How does your run with them upgrades? Did you have it stock at first in the cart?

Re: Running rich with a 2 barrel
I'm not sure what black knobs you have but it sounds like limiting caps on the air fuel adjuster screw. All the way to the left -- counterclockwise -- opens the screws and would make it richer and burn the plugs sooty black. I know if it were my carburetor it wouldn't have any caps on the adjusters. This way you could really set your carbs adjustments.

You cant remove the caps just turn them about 90 degrees til they hit the stops.

Re: Running rich with a 2 barrel
Well these arent really caps. Their tear drop looking knobs and have 2 little nipples on either side to stop them from spinning all the way around. Now if I turn the knobs all the way to the right is studders noticeably.

Re: Running rich with a 2 barrel
Take a small file or dermal tool and remove the portion that stops it from turning.
