Default Family Friendly Big Block Cart

Aaron and Geoff have my money and the clock is ticking until we get a shipping notice for the kit and 625 engine for our older TXT. For now I am making plans for a long overdue reorganization of the add-on wiring I've done over fifteen years. Its all tidy but it could use some streamlining while I delete the stock wiring for the 295 Robins.

In the meantime I was curious about everyone's experience with the rest of the cart drivers in your household getting along with the cart after an engine swap. The 625 obviously starts and stops like a car/truck so no more jump on and go.

My wife has plenty of experience driving the cart and was very skilled at driving my lifted '81 Toyota 4wd pickup.

Just wondering how the other drivers who aren't into carts like us adapted to the changes. We all know how things are going for some of BrutalSoldier's other drivers in the house (LOL) but maybe there are some subtle things y'all can share.

The biggest difference is starting from a stop. With the stocker you just floor it and lift when you reach desired speed. With an engine swapped cart you just sort of roll into the throttle.

I myself really don't have much to share, because my wife wants nothing to do with my modified carts, she will use my stock Ezgo to run around on, here and there, yard work, ride the grand kids but that's it, she won't even ride with me in my ClubCar/Atv cart. Don't know why I only rolled it one time... I had to beg her to drive the G9 just so I can hear what it sounds like going down the road, but that was a flop all she did was went in a 25' circle and said i'm done and she didn't even get on it.. the strange thing is, she had her own motorcycle and she has taken my Harley out by herself..

Had no idea the converted cart would behave like that. Sounds more like a car or truck with an automatic tranny.

My wife intends to drive it as much as she has the stock cart, maybe a bit more since it will be more capable of keeping a higher speed over the hills to visit her neighbor friends. Mostly though she wants the power to pull the Marathon project tow behind seating so she and a friend can ride in it. Over the holidays that project will be getting moved ahead with a finished tongue and lifted rear suspension and idler axle. By the time the 625 is installed in the TXT the Marathon trailer should be ready for a test "tow". Then the tedious work removing rusted battery trays, reupholstering the seats, patching and painting the body, and finally adding the lights and cup holders.

Gotta remember your replacing a 8.5 hp engine with a 25 hp engine so it going to be a bit jumpy till you get a handle on how to drive it.

Are you suggesting I skip the whisky & seven for the first test drive?

Everyone I know loves it, even just a stock 420 clone has near double the power of an old tired stock cart. But the clones I did even the one that now has vegas cam and rod and worked head and 1.3 rockers and stuff, it is setup like a stock cart with the gen starter and pedal start, it will drive at 3mph all day just like stock, so it only takes off hard when you gas on it. I do yard work and tow stuff I can't have it acting strange in those situations. It does rev harder when you take off but will still go slow. How you set up your throttle linkage can affect how it drives also.

Hopefully starting and driving like a car will be easier. Our 295 Robins has always been cold natured requiring the choke for a second or two even in a Missouri July. If she can fire up the 625 and let it idle for 15-60 seconds then take off she won't have to fiddle with the choke. As it is now she isn't anxious to drive it from a cold start because of the sluggish and jerky start choking it. Especially this coming week with highs in the low 20's. Brrrrr

The 23 horse riding mower she takes to like a duck to water. Choke to start and push it back in when the engine starts to stumble. Then drive off.

My suggestion is this -- develop a real light foot for the throttle. Drugs and alcohol are for people who can handle themselves. If what you do turns you into a destructive *** -- then just don't do it. Merry Christmas.
