Default 18hp Briggs Advance Timing Key

Ok, folks.

I will post pics in a bit but we got the 18hp briggs in and it runs well with my fabricated linkage. I have the high rev kit and I want to install just the advance timing key before I take it out this weekend. I would like to install both but I am not experienced enough to mess with the rods.

What do I need to know to install the advance timing key? Does it just plug in, do I need to adjust timing after installed? Do I need a timing light? Help help.

Any instructions on installation will also be helpful. Last one, do I need to pull the motor do install the advance timing key? I have all the plastics off the cart.

Thanks guys.

I installed mine in the cart it was very simple,I had to be a little creative to fit a puller on the flywheel, but it was a very easy install.

I didn't need a puller, pull on the fly wheel and tap the NUT (not the end of
the shaft). The new key will fit into the slot the old key was in. That's it, put
the fly wheel back on . Before you tighten it, turn the fly wheel clockwise to
make sure it's against the key. Did you get instructions with the key??? They
are easy to follow.

I used a cheapo $20.00 steering wheel puller and it worked fine,I first tried tapping the nut and the flywheel with no luck,my engine had about 8 hours on it before I installed the key.

It's too bad that are not more $10.00 parts that make that much of a difference,I am going to order another engine kit for my kids cart in the next week or so and won't even install it without changing the key.

If anyone has them I have a fax. I'll try calling tom see what he can do.

Any other pointers on installing the key?
