Re: Harbor Freight 22hp V twin
Vegas Carts sells a kit for which they say you have to have a minimum 4" lift. The v-twin engine must be a tight squeeze vertically for the CC carts. They only offer a kit for the Briggs v-twin so there must be something about the HF engine that isn't compatible in their eyes. They offer kits for EZGO and the Briggs or HF engines though.

Re: Harbor Freight 22hp V twin
Really appreciate the info. I have plenty of lift, I guess I'll have to do some leg work on shaft specs and all to see if itll work. Would really like to use the stick clutch for cost. I hope someone has tried this and chimes in.

Re: Harbor Freight 22hp V twin
depending on the year cart you cannt use the rear clutch without changing the spring motor runs back wards on a 97 up. before 97 ok but you have to stay with a 1 in belt to use stock clutchs we have longer 1 in belts made for this also can use taper adappter and use front clutch on a 1 in strait shaft eng.we have an 18 hp van guard that will drag that 22 around backwards but its all about the money.we sell all the clutchs belts and mounts, pipes ,mufflers and wire harnesses you need.plus free info that can save you lots of cash.we built the first and everyone else is behind us

Btw, I fabricated the entire lift on my CC and everyone who drives it is amazed. Besides the larger tires it handles **** near like a stock cart, I drove 4 or 5 aftermarket lifted CC's and decided I could do better.. |

Re: Harbor Freight 22hp V twin
I can tell your in the cash battle and want the best bang for your dollar. IMO I would not use the stock clutches with the 22 hp engine. Quality 1 inch belts are few and far between if at all. 22 hp is to much for the 1 inch belt IMO and they don't offer any Kevlar high performance belts. Also using the stock clutch may require cutting the crankshaft short. This makes it hard to up grade to the comet 780 cause you'll have to replace the shortened crankshaft to start. Vegas Carts have the correct secondary clutch matched to the 780 so you can run a 1-3/16 belt and they have tonnes of high performance belts in that size. The predator 22hp is a good engine. The 780 is rated for 20 plus horsepower - I'm running a solid 25 hp through mine with no problems so far.

If you haven't bought the engine already a look at the new vegascarts 625 might be worth your time.

Re: Harbor Freight 22hp V twin
The 1" belt/clutches are an issue no matter what engine you put in a CC. You can use them with the adapter you may have to cut the crank shorter to make it fit in the cart, depends on how much room you have. I cut mine short the recoil was into the fuel tank so I had to. Later I put an ezgo 94c replacement on and moved the engine over a little more away from the tank, its closer to the block. You can still put a 1" on later they say, it should fit snug even on 1 1/8 of crank which is the shortest you cut for an adapter. That is what I was told, if you cut longer the better I guess. A taper clutch fits tight but only on about 1" of length.
You can put it in yourself if you want, I did two yamaha. Made the mount right in the cart its just a couple bars of 3/8x1 1/2 or so and a 1 1/2 tube across the front to level the engine, a clone 420. Yours may be different but I can say every CC I looked at had a lot more room in there. The 1" clutch is not the best it wont work as well, but it does work it should get the cart around. You can always replace it later, you can always run taper cart clutches too. The Vegas 780 can run a pulley behind it if you keep the generator, but if you cut the crank there might not be enough room for it later. |

Re: Harbor Freight 22hp V twin
My 2 cents,
If you're going to spend the money on a new motor, then spend the money on new clutches and a belt, with the exception of your axle you have a new drivetrain, which is important when it comes to peace of mind, knowing that dependability is everything, you don't want to be stranded, I just don't believe in cutting corners of any kind, when it comes to dependability if it's just you you can cut corners but if family members and friends are going to be riding it, then don't cut corners... In the end you'll have a cart that you can be proud of and people want to ride on. If you look under any of the hoods of my vehicles, you will find a sticker on the radiator shroud..... It says "No Compromises" On a side note the Harbor Freight 670, is a good Dependable motor, and mods are becoming more and more as more people start to use the hf motor.... |
