Carb Stud Removal
Seems like a simple task but since I haven't done it before bear with me. I am changing carb studs to fit an intake adapter. After removing the filter and carb do I just clamp the stud with a vice grips and twist it out? That is what my shade tree experience would tell me but thought I would ask if there is a better way.
These studs are in the head of a VC625 that is only a couple months old. Shouldn't be any corrosion to speak of. |

Re: Carb Stud Removal
I just double nut the stud to remove it.
This is how I have done it on dirt bike cylinder head studs. |

Re: Carb Stud Removal
I have done it that way in the past too. But with much shorter studs. My concern with that method comes from the studs being so long and thin and the possibility they may twist and break. Maybe they aren't as delicate as they look.

Re: Carb Stud Removal
I removed the carb and exhaust studs on my Lifan that way - no problems and I didnt see any loctite. I wanted to reuse them so vice grips werent an option.

Re: Carb Stud Removal
I ground a couple of flat spots on the unthreaded part of the stud and then used some channnel locks. Didn't want ti chance hurting the threads in case my calculations were off.

Re: Carb Stud Removal
If I grab them with a vice grips it would be down the shank near where they thread into the head.

Re: Carb Stud Removal
I use a little vise grip 4 inches long to remove the carburetor studs. None of the engines I've tried removing them from were tight. A hard tap with a hammer will help get them started. Shocking the threads a little will help loosen them.

rooster
The picture of the studs I sent you has them thicker at the bottom, I just used a small set of vice grips (after removing the Black intake adaptor mext to the head) and the spun right out. |
