Default 16HP V-Twin Swap Complete with questions

Hello all I just did a 16HP V-Twin swap in my 94 Club Car. Currently I have the governor disconnected and she pushes 30MPH now! But my issue now is I have it idled down as low as it will go but it is still engaging the clutch so I cant switch gears without shutting it off.

I am running the stock clutches at the moment and dont plan to spend $500 on new ones right now. So my question is do I need this spring and will it fix my idling issue with engaging the clutch to early? I might as well replace the driven spring while I have it apart.

I am also planning on buying the high speed gears and the high rev kit for the 16HP.

First off, you need a tachometer installed on the engine so you can tell us at what rpm it is idling now. Guessing is a bad idea if you are trying to get the idle speed below the engagement rpm of the clutches.

Loosen the drive belt and your issue should be solved

After you get a tach installed so you know actually what your turning for rpm I can teach you how to tune your carburetor. If you could post a picture of your carburetor so I know where the air/fuel screws are located. You'll most likely have to drill the little plugs over them and pry them out to gain access to the adjuster screws.. I wouldn't change any springs till we get the first problem figured out. Changing the springs in clutch or secondary pulley can cause more issues then trying adjust the carburetor

The belt is already pretty loose. In the picture below that was just a mock up.

I do have a tach installed and its idling around 1400RPM. Here is a picture of my carburetor. I didnt see an air/fuel screw on the outside of the carb

That is a pretty high idle rpm for shifting from idle. You will need to get it down to at least 1200rpm. Hopefully lower. I have no idea of the engagement rpm of the stock CC clutch. Someone else may be able to help with that. My Comet 780R from Vegas Carts engages at 1700rpm and the idle at 1250 is about as high as it can stand to shift from neutral into forward or reverse.

Look around the bottom of the carb body - your looking for a round plug that covers the . air/fuel screw. Carefully drill a 1/8" hole in it and use a large 3" drill screw turned in with a screw driver -- pull the plug out. If you could post the model carburetor I could get you more detailed info.

Yeah it seems high to me but when I adjust the idle screw any lower it dies.

Yeah I do remember seeing that plug. Does it have to be replaced once I take it out? The number I found on the carb is 808070. Also what will adjusting the fuel/air mixture do for the idle?
