Default GX630 governor

I am so tired of my Club car Honda Big block set up in my eyes not running fast enough. Most rpms I can get out of it is 3500. Want them closer to 3700/3800. I can get them up in the 3800 but when I do that the rpms are to high at a stop and have to stand of the brakes to keep it from moving on its own when being stopped, and can’t get it in forward or reverse with out Turing it off.. So my BIG question does Anyone know how to adjust these rev limiters on the newer Honda Engines?

Depending on how new your engine is -- the rev limiter is electronic and built into the coils. There is no adjustment. You may have to replace the coils with ones that have no limiter built in. This is why most builders stay away from Honda v twins plus no aftermarket parts.

Is the cable too short to keep it from returning to idle when tighten to get more rpm? The electrical governor is 3950-4050 rpm limit it will bounce when you hit that limot you want to set your mechanical governer just below this. There is a screw that ajusts the max rpm limit of the mechanical governer back it out till it turns the rpm where you want it to when the lever is pulled against it then there is a small spring that connects to the governer arm that sticks out the side opposite the oil filter remove the smallest spring it’s tiny. This will let it fall back to idle when the governed throttle arm is released. You may need to adjust the idle stop on the carb to get it to idle low enough 7-800 rpm usually. I can post pics if it would help.

I have the never engine that's has built in governer. Can it still be adjust the way your taking? And yes can you post pics. I know big car engines not these small ones? engine is about 4/5 years old I think. the govern rod out the side of the engine wount let it go full throttle. If I take the heavy spring off if will go full throttle but it wont run since the spring isn't pulling the govern arm.

Would you know what coil is needed? Engine is about 4/5 years old. I wouldn't have this engine if I new what I know now

If your able to do the work -- I would remove all the throttle linkage and hook the throttle cable directly to the carburetor. I've bought bicycle brake cable kits from like K Mart for 8-9 dollars. They have 4-5 cables in the pack. I've made 2 throttle cable setups from one kit. Use a spring to return the throttle to an idle. The setup would be like a car. It would eliminate half of the problem. Then the next stage would be to replace the coils if you can't get the rpm you want.

The electronics in the ignition coils will ground out intermittently when you trace the max rpm just as newer cars do when redlined. This electronic governer will stop you from increasing rpm past 4000 regardless of throttle position and or mechanical governer. So the “Honda rev limiter” has no effect on the problem unless exceeding 4000 rpm.

I include a pic of the side of the motor where the mechanical governer and throttle linkage all connects. On top where the carb is should be as it came factory. Can post pics of that too if you have modified the linkages.

My thoughts from your first post was you wanted a few hundred rpm 37-3800. Bypassing the mechanical governor and use a throttle return spring to control the idle and you would have 4000 rpm and the governor wouldn't mess with your idle rpm -- if adjusted properly it should idle like a car after its warmed up.

The coils for the Marine GX270 and Marine GX390 have no rev limit.

Part number is: 30500-Z5K-801 This is the newer coil same as the GX630 that require 12v to run.

Oem Honda part. Should fit and work as normal.

I have used newer GX390 coils on the GX690, but had to replace the plug wire with a longer one.

Technical manuals for both engines below.

If I could get close to 4000 I would be happy as heck.
