Default G1 predator build

Picked up a G1 last night for $300. Plan is to out a 420 predator in it. Was able to strip it down last night but came across something that has me concerned. The rearend was working fine but at some point in the near down the rear end started turning freely when the clutch would turn. Is that a direct shaft setup and should always turn together?

The rear end in a G1 is direct drive - no neutral - no gears to shift.

Totally possible.

I am just finishing up my Honda clone swap in a G1 - As stated, you will loose reverse, but there is tons of space to swap the motor. I am running about 15mph to 18mph max on stock wheels and with the 440 cc engine governor installed and limited to 3600rpm.

The torque is insane, I break the tires loose barley stepping on the gas! I cut A LOT of donuts lol Planning on a lift and bigger tire combo for off roading and more speed.

One minute everything is like it should be and the next my axle is free spinning without any contact turning the clutch. I have yet to split the case but guessing that's what I'm going to have to do

Here's a diagram of a g1 gearbox.

I split the case and everything looks fine. Looks like the right axle is a direct drive and the left is not. Is the a different spline coupler a guy can use to diff lock the rear end?

Not for the G1, G2, G9 rear ends. Some guys weld the spider gears with good results. I've seen a few guys flip the spider gears around, can't remember which cart or where that thread is, but it acted like a diff lock. Also seen someone here use some washers on the spider gears to tighten them up.

If you want true posi lock, you'll want to switch to an EZGO TXT rear end. I looked into that and was an inch away from doing the swap. Ended up selling the diff. Should have kept it.

Most carts are open diffs with one wheel peel. Every now and then I can get two wheels to peel in gravel or loose dirt, but its just a few seconds then it does the one wheel.

Thanks for the info. I removed the rear end governor while I was in there as well. I have to order a new secondary clutch. My old man said we broke it getting out but the cuttoff wheel says he didn't want to wait for a puller.

Thought I had a new rear end gasket coming but I was refunded my money so that's not the case. Anyone know where I could find a rear end gasket?
