Default 23hp vanguard in 2000 club car

Ordered the 23hp kit from CPP. Bruce really spent a great deal of time on the phone with me and helped me with his knowledge. Great doing business with folks that treat you like they know you
Kit will be arriving soon
To anyone who's done this swap what can I expect on max speed with 22" tires?I know my reverse will now become my forward. My cart is used mostly for hauling deer/hogs out of the creek bottoms
Would the high speed 8:1 swap be worth it for the extra top end speed
Thx to all

You will love it!! Hold off on the gears until you see how it is. You should be around 40 mph +/- and enough torque to pull down a tree!!!

I hope Bruce hooked you up with a rev kit.

I didn't get the rev kit yet. He said it would void the warranty. Ordering a tiny tach to keep a check on rpms and hrs. Would the rev kit be all I need to get the top speed up to a reasonable level?
Will this motor start if the battery is drained. The reason I ask is sometimes I have to use the winch. Love to be able to run a mini denso alternator with this setup

Using reverse as forward is a 17:1 ratio. I have 6:1 gears in mine which makes my forward roughly 9:1. 8:1 gears makes forward roughly 12:1.

What's the best compromise gear for hunting/hauling and regular use?Want all the torque I need for the hills with a load but don't want to feel like I'm riding a tractor in first gear all the time
Thx everyone

If you didn't get the rev kit, I assume that the internal governor is intact. The rev kit protects the valve train from higher RPM's, it does not add RPM's.

The 23 has plenty of torque, but if governed to 35-3600RPM, I wouldn't expect too much in the way of speed, especially with R as F.

Gears will get you more speed, but you won't fully realize the potential of the 23 until you remove the governor.

Yes it's a stock brand new motor. I'm use to the ole fe290 which runs great, just don't have the grunt for the hunting I do
Rev kit and governor removed should be all I need then to make it a more enjoyable/multipurpose cart?
One more question guys and I'll let this rest. Do I disable the governor or remove the internals also plus what about the transaxle governor
Thanks everyone

Bypass the transaxle governor, just dont rev high speed all the time. Guys have reported those parts coming off. The right way is to remove the parts, but that means taking apart the trans.

The gov on the engine can be bypassed as well, just loosen the bolt that holds the throttle lever to the governor shaft. Same applies here, just dont rev high all the time, better to remove the internal parts.

Rev kit is not needed unless you rev past 4400 rpm or so. Past that and you could bend a pushrod. Best to invest in the billet pushrods and heavy springs.

Got a tach ordered. Maybe I'll try to adjust engine governor to a max rpm of 4-4200 rpm without the rev kit. Later on I can do the cam, pushrod and rev kit when it's out of warranty
This forum is great

Double check with Bruce, the new Vanguards from CPP do not have a governor. They have been factory deleted and we are supposed to use the cart governor on the rear end. Click on the pic.....no governor as received from CPP.
