Default Next Stage Cam

The VC 460 comes with a mild cam over stock. Increased torque from 1500-5000 rpm. What would be the next stage camshaft? It has to be able to idle easily at 12-1300 rpm. I already have a bullet proof valve setup, it may need stiffer springs. My max rpm is 5500 rev's with standard running rpm of 3500 rev's. As it goes now I'm turning about 4200 rpm and moving 44-45 mph. My big problem is my Micro Truck is too heavy and aerodynamically incorrect to go much faster. My next ride is much lighter then what I've built. What's the next stage cam over the 460's torque cam.

Timed to talk to Russell and Jody. I have been eyeing up NR's 0411 TQ and ARC's 275 WLC.

I drove with these cams, the Idle at 1200-1300 RPM is not a problem when we found the right ajustement on carburetor (always with carburetor mukini)
I had a problem starting and idle when I tried an aluminum flywheel.

VC cams ((280lift, 1.3rocket)
0811 RPM Grind (280lift, 1.3rocket)
306-0807 RPM Grind (306lift, 1.2rocket)
Dyno Cams Mod 1 (310lift, 1.2rocket)

I was going through the numbers - the cam that's in the 460 now gives you .338 with 1.3 to 1 rocker arms. Increased lift is good but increased duration causes drivability issues. It has to idle at 1200 rpm or less so the transmission can be shift. I like NR's TQ 0411, there's more information on NR's page.

I use a special Genuine Honda flywheel [4 magnets - 18 amp alt]. I wrote to Russell at NR and asked at what rpm does this type flywheel become dangerous? The answer was " I don't know". At 5500 rpm it's safe. The PS at the end of the communication -- I've never heard of a Genuine Honda flywheel fragging or coming apart.

Ben - you speak about using a Mikuni carburetor slide style. The reason for the little bit better cam is I'm going to try PZ33mm pumper carb on my new project.

VC cams ((280lift, 1.3rocket) duration 246
0811 RPM Grind (280lift, 1.3rocket) duration 220
306-0807 RPM Grind (306lift, 1.2rocket) duration 240
Dyno Cams Mod 1 (310lift, 1.2rocket) duration 248

I think there is only a small difference in timing between RPM grind and torque grind. The duration will not cause a problem, it is already large with VC cams.
The clutch engages at only 1200RPM? The clutch should be calibrated a little higher.
Me is 1800.

I have the Honda 18 amp charging system with the UT1 ignition system. No rev limiter. These are the parts of my charging setup. The rectifier is from a 25 amp Kolher charging system.
To answer the clutch question, it starts to engage at 1700 rpm and totally shifts out at 3100 rpm. There are folks here that alter there 780 to engage at a lower rpm. I leave it alone cause the engine is just starting to make power at 1800 rpm.
