Gas and Oil
Hi all,
It's been a minute since I've had to make a post on something that I'm not sure about. My golf cart has been running good for a long long time, that is all changed. Bringing my cart back from a long ride, it just died would not start back up. So I went and got the truck and Towed the cart home, I started doing little things just to find out where to start the first thing I found was my oil level was incredibly High almost like double the capacity of what it's supposed to be. Then I pulled off the air cleaner, to take a look inside the carb, I noticed a puddle of oil sitting on the bottom of the carb were it goes into the intake. Upon further inspection, I noticed oil coming out the vent tube for the front cylinder, and I noticed a heavy oil build-up on the back cylinder where you add oil. I changed the oil, cleaned out the carb and it started right up. The question that I have is where do I look is this a cracked head or crack Block, or possibly a gasket of some sort? This V-Twin Vanny has been a great motor, hoping I can find the fix for it. So I'm looking to you experts for any ideas? |

Re: Gas and Oil
Sounds like your float or needle valve stuck and filled your crank case with gas. Sometimes trash will get into the needle valve and keep it open just enough to prevent a good seal.

Re: Gas and Oil
Thanks for the reply, my cart see's Day in day out abuse, so I try to take care of the cart as far as maintenance goes,
But it sure does suck when you're deep in the woods, and your cart breaks down. Not only is it a long walk home, you can't get your pickup truck back there, and I dang sure don't want that to happen again. But oddly enough, I just recently rebuilt the carb, and I have a spare carb for backup, as I have heard that these two barrel Nikki carbs, are notorious for clogging and getting trash in them. With that said, I try not to take the golf cart in water over the floorboards, or deep soft sugar sand, but for some reason I just cannot stay out of a good old mud hole. I don't even ask my buddy to hold the beer, Just hang on |

Re: Gas and Oil
Do you have a filter between tank and fuel inlet on the carb ?

Re: Gas and Oil
I actually run to glass fuel filters, the first fuel filter is in between the tank and the pump, the second fuel filter is in between the pump and the carb.

Re: Gas and Oil
Took it on a short trip this afternoon,
After I got back to the house, I checked the oil which showed to be fine, pulled off the air cleaner and air filter look down into the carb, this time it look good like new, with no oil in it...... Hoping that was a freak of nature.... But it still has me paranoid.... |
