Default briggs regulator question

So my engine came with no charging wiring all i have is the yellow plug coming out right above the starter so i purchased the regulator to plug into that. So when i plug in the yellow then i have one red wire coming out of it and im curious how that hooks up and what should i do?

The red wire is your 12 volt positive.(if its coming out of the regulator)

so i should bring that back to my battery? I put a test light on it and it doesnt seem to light up.....any other ideas?

this should get you where you need to go, the red wire from the reg goes back to the key.

I believe the red wire should be used to charge the battery. It should also have 3amp when the engine is running. Do you have anything with the engine running?

no, it charges the battery by way of the key switch

good,how can i tell which charging system i have,and which one do i want for lights and a stereo?everything seems to work great,but i di have a vacum line off the carb that im not sure is for,and a white wire out of the wiring harness with a weird little plug on it.

most likely its a 16 amp system and will run basic lights etc, i think the fitting off the carb your talking about is a over flow
the white wire with the odd plug is for a fuel shut off solenoid

ok so i hooked up my regulator and wired it the way it shows above. How can i tell if its charging? I put a meter on the battery and it just says 12volts and doesnt seem to change. I just want to make sure its working
