Vanguard 20 hp. Keep it pedal start?
Putting a brand new 20 hp Vanguard in my 05 DS I found on craigslist for $500 bucks.
Debating whether to keep it pedal start. What are the pros and Cons keeping it pedal start? Interested in everyone's thoughts. |

Re: Vanguard 20 hp. Keep it pedal start?
I did my first mod build last year with the VC 625, my first experience with a key start. I love it being in my modified cart, I would say don’t do a pedal start, go with a key start on that big boy. My two cents worth..

Re: Vanguard 20 hp. Keep it pedal start?
Thanks. This is my first build as well. Wasn't going to do the engine swap yet but couldn't pass up 500 buck for a new vanguard.
I just like the pedal start feature as I will be driving it around the neighborhood and back and forth to our pool. Having a key start seems pretty nice though. Decisions Decisions |

The big question is are you gonna run your cart in cold weather, seeing your location.

I'm not sure how you'd do a pedal start on a engine that doesn't use a starter/generator.

Will be run in it in the cold. Gonna bag the pedal start idea. One of the guys from Vegas carts didn’t think the starter generator would be able to turn over the motor. I am sure it could be done. Would just need to find a way to mount it. Thanks for the feedback. |

I've done pedal start with VC420's & stock Predator 420's. Starter torque has never been a problem. Not sure how much difference it would be with the Vanguard.

Re: Vanguard 20 hp. Keep it pedal start?
U will like the key start after u do it plus it will be a lot easier to wire and hook it all up for key start
Plus u will find that in a club car there is not much extra room in there once u get the motor in |
