Default Transaxle swap question do any carts use Dana rear?

Hello all, im new to the cart game and learning what I can. I have a UTV I swapped in a 670 vtwin engine. Have learned a lot from the others here doing engine swaps.

A question I had was about the golf cart axle's, I see different ratio gear sets are available for the electric gear boxes, but apparently not for the gas carts? I have a Dana/Schafer H12 FNR box in this rig, but there are only ultra low gear sets currently available.

I have tried to get information from Schafer with no luck. We are looking at swapping in an electric golf cart rearend, and was wondering what the vtwin gas engine swap guys are running for rear axle, what holds up and what may have lower (6:1/8:1) gear sets available. I researched and read manuals, but can't figure out if any model golf carts ever used the Dana H12, or even a model designation. I assume the electric carts used a different axle than gas, but I am only assuming. Hoping someone can school me. Thanks

In golf carts, electric rear ends are entirely different than gas rears, and I can't think of a reason to ever want to switch from from a gas rear to an electric one.

Yamaha used Dana/Spicer axles in the G16 and G22. Gear ratio about 12:1. High speed gears are available, maybe, 8:1.

Pictures, and a description of what you've got might help.

What are your intentions with the swap?

Hey Dave, it seems Dana/Schafer part numbers spring up in ALL of these buggies in one form or another. Gets confusing when going between manufactures.

Attached is a pic of the axle I'm working on, so far from what I can gather (going from parts schematics) it uses internals identical to the boxes in gas Yamaha G14-22 rigs, has the wide 4bolt helix cut driven or ring gear, with the splined pinion gear, and helical teeth. The electric version of this buggy uses the exact same Dana rear as the electric carts, where the motor mounts up on top of the gearbox. The gas EZGO box is another critter with thinner straight cut gears, which all crossover to Dana part #'s like all the others.

My poor perception, or just an amazing coincidence the gas G14-22 gearbox looks just like the Dana gas UTV transaxles, and the electric G14 gearsets look identical to all other electric gearboxes, in fact the EZGO and Yamaha G14 apparently use the exact same gear set, but only for the electric gearbox. Gas use different gears on the EZGO stuff.

Parts listing for the gas transaxle I have: https://americanlandmaster.com/pdfs/...012AJ396-1.pdf

Electric transaxle for comparison: https://americanlandmaster.com/pdfs/...NA_2-20840.pdf

Intention of the swap is just a bit more cruising speed, going from a 13.25:1 to 8:1 final drive. We bought this as a basket case, (I will pay almost as much for the gear set as the rig itself!) the old engine ate some air cleaner screws and self destructed as the PO decided to just keep driving it with screws rattling around.
Thanks

Here's a late G14, G16, G22 Dana axle. Quite a difference.

One item to consider - electric transaxles have no reverse gears. It's a direct drive gearbox with no neutral.

Looks a lot like some of the electric axles I have seen. Is yours a Yamaha rear, or a Dana? Apparently they changed things up depending on year. The internals look identical to what I have, at least the final drive gear and pinon gear. I don't have side by side photos, but considering Dana supplied much of the driveline components for Yamaha carts, and spline counts, it's mighty coincidental at this point.

From my limited research your gearbox should take this style gear set: m.buggiesunlimitedcom/product.asp?sku=5887&gclid=CjwKCAiA767jBRBqEiwAGdA Or7y1tZOUj9We8Jrozwog4bb8G2tQLMDJ2Ea1ZKQqwQGbWAlB2 ogn9RoCuTkQAvD_BwE

Where the pinion has shaft ends on it's axis.

Where as the (older?) boxes use this style gear set: m.buggiesunlimitedcom/product.asp?sku=5886&gclid=CjwKCAiA767jBRBqEiwAGdA Or2aKl11Knn9-XNcI76TmBYmuXWjiOsTrbMnbwoBGhKFQ3YJT1jJxkhoC-6QQAvD_BwE

Which look identical to the gears in the Dana FNR box.

(Sorry for the links, just showing the different gear styles)

Just realized the diagrams I have been looking at are for the Yamaha IRS carts apparently. Solid axle is different setup.

So to answer my own ignorant question = most ALL carts use Dana axles of some sort or another. Figuring out what parts interchange is still a bit of mystery. Crossing the fingers my contact at Schafer gets back to me to set me straight.

That looks a lot like the ezgo axle I got from someone. I believe it was out of a st480
Hydraulic drum brakes, locker on the side of the transmission

One other way to change your cruising speed would be to use a jack shaft.
