Default Fuel Tank Replacement Fuel Cell

For those of us that are building a project and don't have a fuel tank, consider a fuel cell. Also, if you have a stock tank with a top mounted pickup hose/tube, consider a fuel cell because the pick up is on the bottom and unrestricted.

Now, keep in mind that my fuel tank was deteriorating from the inside. Little pieces of plastic were peeling off and finding their way into my fuel filter. This is what prompted me to replace the tank.

Fuel cells are great because they are aluminum and look cool, but they also are highly functional and safer than a plastic tank. They come with multiple outlets and vents, and usually have a very nice sealed/locking fill cap.

I got this one from Summit Racing, only because I just happen to be driving by last week This is a 3 gallon model. 8x8x15. The 5 gallon models were cheaper, $66, but the dimensions were way too big at 12x12x8. It would have hit the primary clutch, or would have been really close. Not to mention the exhaust pipe would have been 1/2" away. So the smaller 3 gallon fit nicely with room to spare.

The fittings are -8 AN fittings, which can be used with AN braided hoses. I haven't sprung for the hoses yet, the tank was $155. Believe it or not, the hose kit is almost as much as the tank.

I removed the old tank, it's for sale lol Just kidding, it's no good.

I made up a mounting bracket with some aluminum angle, 1.5" I believe.

Test fit for clearance and mounted it in permanently. Had to mount a front and rear bracket for stabilization. Used some scrap galv flat stock.

Finished it off with a new glass replaceable fuel filter, and an additional paper type filter after that. Not sure why I did this, but I figured two is better than one. Flow is not an issue. Also added a fuel shutoff valve.

My fuel in the old tank was so dirty and gross. Now the fuel from the new tank is super clear and clean. I'm very glad I did this. It works great and looks good too.

Cool, nice install. AN is nice to look at, but it is spendy and a little bit overboard for a golf cart IMO. Still, for the price of a new OEM plastic tank, you're probably money ahead which doesn't make any sense at all.
