Default VC 625 - Better Carb?

I installed the VC 625 big lock in my G16. I live in a moderate climate (60-75f) at sea level. The engine ran but was pretty hot and required a lot of choke intervention, even when warm.

I read up and started drilling on jets and now it runs worse clouds of smoke and surging). I really don’t want to keep buy jets and drilling them out - nor do I care for the cheesy plastic choke lever on this carb.

Does someone sell something that works and is more easily adjustable?

Wonder if you can install a Mikuni on it?

I found this carburetor on ARC Racing's wbsite for a Honda GX390. So the venturi might be a little smaller (21mm) compared to the 625cc carburetor (24mm) It appears it has an air/fuel mixture screw but not 100% sure. If correct, this would allow you to adjust the idle circuit on the fly. Might reach out to those guys and ask em.

I’ll give them a ring. As of now, I think I’ve hosed my idle jet and I can’t find a replacement.

I've looked into this, sourced all the required parts and was on the verge of ordering. The only thing that stopped me was the unique Mikuni throttle linkage and trying to adapt it to a golf cart. I think it may take a fair bit of fabrication to come up with the right bracketry on the engine side, and that doesnt even take into account all the time you would spend adjusting on the throttle pedal/black box side. In the end, it wasnt worth it to me.

The throttle cable is straightforward on a dirt bike type of carb. No linkages, you just run the cable directly to the carb.

A bicycle brake cable kit from Walmart has 4-5 different length cables that can be cut to fit what ever application you need [choke/throttle] Like HBR said - the motorcycle carburetor is a straight pull - real easy to set that end up. The pedal end would need a screw type cable stop. Below I listed parts I've used to setup my carts. There's enough parts to do a couple of carts and it's cheaper then one factory throttle or choke cable

The Mikuni's are very tune-able and give great idle, mid, and awesome top end rpm performance. I prefer the BSR style, but the old dirt bike carbs are bullet proof. I'm in the process of looking for a mount for my Vanguard.

On a side note, a while back I purchased a cheap chinese version that was for the GY6 go carts. The only problem with that carb was I couldn't find the correct jets to tune it. It looked like a Mikuni but it had old Kehin style jets. Couldn't find anyone local with the proper jets.

Both the idle and main jets are on E bay. Both are available in 10 size sets for little $'s. I have one all set up and the Ebay jets were a perfect fit. I never installed it due to the adjustable jet mod to the 24 mm VC 3 circuit carb working so well and SO EASY to tune.

I have thought many times about a Mikuni round slide carb but can't figure out what exactly to buy to mate it to the 625 intake port.
