Default What performance are you guy getting?

Looking to build myself a custom gas cart...i prefer a precedent but an open minded to anything..
420cc, 670cc, 18hp duromax, 22hp predator, 23hp vanguard..so many options...

Question is for those who are using this, what setups are you guys running and what kinda performance are you guys getting from it?

The 3 questions that determine speed. Tire diameter, gear ratio, max rpms of the engine. The first 2 are easy to figure the 3rd depends on what you do to any of the listed engines. All are certainly capable of 40+ mph with the right mods.

Are you looking for top speed or acceleration?

Top speed will come from engine rpm and tire diameter. Most stock engines are good to 3600-4200 rpm without valvetrain damage. Add 22" tires and most carts will go 30-35 mph with that combo. Any of those engines will deliver that top speed. Any more speed will require more rpm via camshaft and valvetrain upgrades and larger tires. Larger tires will take away some low end torque. 22" tires will give you a good top end and not sacrifice much low end at all. 25" will lug at low speeds.

Acceleration will come from engine tuning and final drive ratio. The Vanguard twins will give the most torque at the lowest rpm. I'm also hearing good things about the VC625, although I don't have experience with that engine yet. Any of these engines can be built to deliver more. Any of these built engines can handle 25" tires without issue. As Ray said 40 plus mph is easy with the right mods.

Share your budget and goal and we can steer you in the right direction.

I'm looking to get over 45mph, but still have better than stock acceleration. as of now i have a stock lifted precedent that i removed the gov and am barely squeaking out 28mph.
a friend has a 6 seater ego that he claims does 37mph and he's a little cocky, and obviously being the golf cart guy, i need to smoke him.
i build electric carts as a side business, but gas is all new to me. so, heres what I'm thinking, all will be on the lifted precedent - predator 670cc with headers, cam, lifters, hd valve springs and rockers, dual 28mm mikuni carbs and intake, ported/polished heads with .01 milled off. estimated power after all that will push 45+hp. Gonna shave the clutches as well. Along with a 40amp alternator charging a group 31 agm battery to run the 5 speaker jl audio system. I'm going to have a build thread for sure. will probably be starting this november.
if anyone has any insight to add id appreciate it.

Wow Should be killer. Don't know if there are going to be fitment issues with the 670. Doesn't seem to fit well in yamahas

Any machine will need to be lifted to install a v twin and the Predator 670 is the tallest of them all.
I run a 460 clone from Vegas Carts. It's been tricked out a little with a ported head and a 24mm carb with a NOS system for fun. Has an 18 amp alternator and all led lighting. I run 25" Afterburner street tires by GB and 8 to 1 gear ratio transaxle. Has 4 wheel hydraulic disc brakes and E brake. Runs 30-35 mph at 36-3800 rpm and a top speed of 44-45 mph.

Sounds like budget isn't an issue lol. If you're going that far, why not go 23hp Vanguard and get a big cam, valve springs, roller rockers, billet connecting rods, billet flywheel, and a Blackwater Performance alcohol carb setup? Guys running this setup run 7000 rpm and pull 60 hp plus. The Briggs engine has been battle tested for ages. I'm not sure of the reliability of the China made HF670. And the tech help from people who have done it will get you there quickly.

Maybe i will apply it all the the vanguard, this is still in the R&D phase right now. Im sure it will change multiple times before it starts. I know i want to run gas, and not be too tricked out. This will be a daily driver. I choose the predator because there seems to be a big following with building them. Lots of build threads and available parts. Have yet to find that for the vanguard

If budget is not an issue you might want to look at Midwestsupercub's and Lacota's sites. As you have seen the racing pullers use the 670's along with the vtwin kohlers not the vanguards. They have some videos on youtube showing some of the stuff they do.
