Hey pbilly, lot's of info to be found here on that subject! Main problem is that most mower shafts are vertical, going down from the bottom of the engine and that poses big problems in trying to find a way to get the power to a golf cart rear end. A staight, horizntol shaft is a heck of a lot easier because you "just" need to find an aftermarket clutch and the correct belt length to make it work....... and a motor mount, and lift the cart to make enough room under the seat, and an alternator, mufflers, electrical, starter, etc etc, it can still be quite the undertaking!!!

thank you i was afraid that was the case. so how much does it need to be lifted and about how much money to add a bigger engine and the most important how long does it take to do the work?

4-6" lift is enough. There are kits from some of the sponsors here, as mild or wild as you want....... check out CPP (CartPartsPlus) for all the info.... do some searches here in the Big Block section also. The kits from CPP are really the way to go, it may seem like more $$ up front but all the engineering is already done for you, so it can be a weekend type job..

thanks flint so in the long run is it cheaper to buy the motor kit and do it myself or to buy a cart with it already done?

If you could find one with a quality Big Block kit already installed that would be cheaper if you didn't already have a cart. Doing the kit yourself, you know what went into the project! It might be tough to find one already done though....

i was at the golf cart shop yesterday and they have a cart that was already done with all the bells and whistles for 5k that they put in to it. i thought that was a lot nice cart though. i looked at the cpp site and that seems to be a pretty good deal for all that is included thanks for the tip

All the little stuff (and the big stuff!) do add up. I've done mine on the cheap, haven't totaled receipts yet but I still have a couple grand in the entire cart....
