Hydrostatic drive?

Ok here goes a possibly stupid question but what the hay? Has anybody ever put a running gear from a lawn tractor in a golf cart with hydrostatic drive? I have an old three wheeler with a bummed electric motor in it and was thinking of putting in a hydrostatic drive?

Call me silly but has anyone done it?

I don't know of anyone doing it personally. The only thing that might be a problem is the end gear ratio. It will only go as fast as a mower. You can bump that up with taller tires.
Hydrostat's are very good. Very little maintenance (if ever) and very solid systems. They can take tons of abuse and never fail.
Every mower on the golf course are hydro's and some of the maint. vehicles!

the only thing I need this cart for is around the yard doing clean up and stuff like that....so speed isn't important as the wife will have another honey do thing to add to the list if I finish to quickly.

Just need some input to see if it is feasible?

Well, that all depends on your mechanical ability. A hydro is a hydraulic pump that drives small motors through your controls. It sounds like it's all there with the exception of a drive motor for the pump. If the pump is belt driven, you can adapt a different motor to it and install in the cart. You may need to have some hydraulic hoses made, but that's not anything the auto parts people can't handle. Just a matter of what motor and where you want ot mount it. You'll need one with a similar rpm range as the pump handles.
