Preparing Vtwin for the elements off road

Looking at my Kawasaki today I began to think there could be a potential for damage while off roading due to mud and water seeping in through the unprotected air filter and into the engine. Have any of you guys with big blocks had this problem? I was thinking about making a snorkle setup with the air filter in the Workhorse's bed. Could the extra long snorkle intake restrict air flow to the engine though?

get a pre filter.

I have one, but there is no way that will keep water out 100%. Ever been off road before? The entire engine bay will get completely soaked with mud and water. Plus when the mud hardens on the prefilter won't that restrict air flow?

I liked the snorkel idea myself. Maybe run it up to the roof and coat it in chrome. It might look like a semi's exhaust stacks.

What about a scuba tank hooked up to the intake? 1st golf cart ever to cross the Atlantic under its own power.

If you could run straight oxygen, you may not even need gas. Hook up some Av Gas to it with pure O2 tanks and watch the heads fly.

I like the idea of a snorkel. If it was big enough in diameter, it won't restrict.

Are you going to put a guard on that fan? It will make an awful mess when mud and water gets on it.

You need to remove the fan, Not the hub just the blade. The pre filter should stop any water problem most water will run right off a outer wear. If you get enough water in compartment to get through pre filter the motor has long stopped as coils charging stator, pulser coil and cd box are under water already LOL.

I kept wondering if you had removed the fan. I thought it was a mock-up. The fan needs to come off before someone loses a finger or 2. The only time it woud be needed is if the radiator was in front on it. I'm gonna assume you have an electric fan on the radiator.

Most definitely the fan is coming off before someone's hand does!!

I also have an electric fan on the radiator.

So try a prefilter before snorkle? Good less work, I was just getting ready to cut a hole in the bed today for the filter.
