Default Kohler L-head 19HP Magnum.

I have become addicted to this site...and my freakin cart. I've had it for roughly 3 weeks now and I have spent the last 2 scouring craigs list and ebay for a bigger engine.

I think I have found a winner but I wanted to put it out there for comments by the BGW pros and community.

I have found a Kohler 19HP L-head Magnum engine in decent shape. It has a 1-1/8" output shaft.

This a good candidate for a swap into a 1994 Carryall 1?

Advice and opinions appreciated. Thanks is advance.

I too found my big block on craigs. but to do so .... you have to make concessions. 1 1/8 is a big shaft. search for a clutch to fit. may only be a comet 1190? $$$ and check the height o/a you will need a lift kit of 6"....... do lots of homework!

that is an opposed-twin, a very good engine but it does take more room then a v-twin of the same HP. also keep in mind that 4000 rpms will the limit!
the comet 780 clutch does come in 1 1/8 pto size.

Good to know the 780 comes so big! .... the stock rpms are what 35 3600? so ground speed would be the same based upon the same diam. clutch and wheels?

And therein lies the rub.. Horsepower is one thing, without the ability to change the gearing on the fly, doesn't mean a lot for speed....

But....... 18 is double the stock hp. So..... you can run a much bigger tire. Say 23 or even 25 inches. There is a chart somewhere with the tire size equations on it for ground speed incearse???? But that is where you can 'gain some ground, per each rpm of the motor

or the diameter of the centrifugle clutch and belt (or the rear gearing, that's where the HP comes in)........The four wheelin hot rodders have clutch "extensions" available to 'em, golf cart clutches, not so much....

True, look at the slicks on the fast drag carts, HUGE!...Galloway can probably give the specifics on the size advantage..... but the same can be said for lowering the gear ratio, if you can turn it fast enough (HP!). Makes sense?
