Default 87 Phazer snowmobile 500cc in a 97 G16A?

Hi all....

Thanks for all the help so far. Turns out the Honda motor that I was in the works of purchasing was sold out from under me .

Out here in Sacramento it is pretty slim pickings on any type of used motors. I did manage to get a line on a 1987 Yamaha Phazer snowmobile with a 500cc (air cooled) for about $150. Do you guys think this would be workable in a 1997 G16A? Im thinking this would be a 2 stroke but not quite sure. Would I be able to use reverse with this motor? I am thinking I would probably be in for the motor and a comet clutch $$$ wise.....does that sound correct? Any advice is much appreciated. Again thanks for all your help on my other posts!

Shawn.....

Thanks for the reply! So I ended up picking up the snowmobile. Body is a bit worked but motor starts right up (lots of smoke due to sitting for a while). Guess now its time to start tearing it down to see what I have got myself into. If anyone has any experience with a Phazer motor install your input would be greatly appreciated!!!!
