Default 16 HP Vanny governor & tach questions?

Got the vanny running in the marathon but have no speed. In neutral the clutch opens all the way but in the yard it hardley gets to half way. The engine doesn't rev up fast in neutral. I have full pull on the throttle pivot at open throttle.
How can I disconnect the gov linkage to check if that is the problem. I don't really need the gov.

What kind of pickup signal is available for Tach input. I have a Harley tach I would like to use. Is it possible to get a signal off the alternator output.
Would like an analog tack for the cart

A Vanny will run on one cylinder until the load overcomes the hp on that cylinder.....might check that.

Tachs with inductive pickups are the only one's I have ever seen on them.... CPP sells one for it.

One cylinder sounds like a posibility. I put spark checkers on both plugs & they flashed but that doesnt say the plugs are firing.
I also remembered I had 50:1 gas oil mix in the tank from when I had the ski doo engine in. I will change the gas & check the plugs.

sounds like inductive pickup is the only way to fire a tach. Maybe I can wrap a wire around the plug wire & get a signal to the Harley tach. Worth a try

Equus makes one that fits any engine, people often use that one but not really cheap. I see MSD makes an adapter to clip on a plug wire for $45 and says hook any tach to it, but I'd guess a 1 cylinder capable tach would be needed. The summit site is so slow I can't get the model of the Equus.

Either of the 8000 series will work, 8k 8060 or 10k 8080 with shift light and meomory..... I even think the 7000 would work, but not 100% sure.

I think the engine is running normally now. Changed gas & put in new plugs. I also moved the engine over 1/4" to better align the clutches.
Without belt on the clutch closes fast & the engine revs quickly. With belt on & tires jacked off the ground the clutchs both open & close smoothly.
I checked the RPM with my digital timming light & looks like full throttle is about 3850 RPM. Need a few more revs. The manual says to bend a tab up on the governor to increase RPM. IF I don't want the gov what springs do I remove to disable it. I saw a sticky about removing the gov but it was about removing it from the cam. I just want to remove the external linkage.

I bought a Equus 6088 tach off ebay. He said it had an inductive pickup, but nothing in the package. Trying to contact him but no luck yet.

The throttle is connected via the spring, so you have to bypass that linkage and get hooked to the carb to bypass the governor. I would not unless you have to but up to you. I would put the high rev kit in first, it was only 100 and change for an 18hp last I knew. Then you can run pretty high rpm safely.

I talked to Equus Tachs yesterday & they said only the 6068 & 8068 will work. Both have inductive pickups.
I got lots of power with the engine if I work the throttle by hand, The gov doesn't let it rev up quickly.
I am stopping by Ryker racing today in Canada. Going to a golf & curling outing & Ryker is right on the way.
