| Does anyone know how much clearance there is between the top of the piston and the valves? I am swapping out the pistons and conn. rods in my engine with stock bore pistons that have been cut .110 and conn. rods that are .120 longer. In other words my piston pack will be .010 longer. I'm new to this and I'm trying to get a general idea of how much I can safely deck the heads. Thanks. |

| to do this correctly you need to assemble a short block less rings of course and measure how much piston sticks out and add .030 to that number (last time I did it it was about .095 or so) this is the amount to remove from the top of the piston. The .030 is for rod stretch at high rpm so the piston doesnt contact the heads. I have done some subtracting the head gasket I.E if the gasket is .018 then the added number would be .012 instead of .030 hope this this helps and doesnt seam confusing Todd |
