Fuel pump on clone engine
I'm running the small stock gas tank and have been refilling it every day. I did some searching and found most people get rid of the stock gas tank and use a fuel pump, but one problem is with it supplying either to much or not enough fuel.
Would it be easiest to make an electric fuel pump work? How many amps do they need? Is this the right fuel pump to use? 30 GPH 2-4 PSI http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ELECT...Q5fAccessories Thank you!! |

Re: Fuel pump on clone engine
The regulator was a must in my experience. The clone carb is set up for a gravity feed, more than 1/2 pound of fuel pressure overwhelms the float.

Re: Fuel pump on clone engine
Yes like said you can but must use the really low pressure. Most people that run the pulse off the engine valve cover it works ok. Using the gokart pumps that are quite small may help as some cart pumps are larger. You can use a longer pulse line to cut flow down some. The intake pulse makes it overflow at idle I can tell you that then you need to put a return line in. But the pulse pumps are simple/cheap and once on there you forget all about them. They auto stop with the engine too.

Re: Fuel pump on clone engine
I've used the mikuni pulse fuel pump on 6.5 hp racing clones for years and they won't over fuel them.and you don't have to worry about wiring up a pump. We set the pulse up off the bottom half of the valve cover and works great. It will supply fuel just fine for the small hp or it will even work for 15hp and up on the 196cc engines. I used one on an E85 built engine of about 15hp. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work just fine for the 13-16hp also and they are only about 15 bucks

Re: Fuel pump on clone engine
Some of the issue here is the stock pumps on the golf cart are larger than the common gokart pumps. Its nice to use them and not buy something you have to mount and all that when one is already there. But I think some of them pump too much off the idle pulse, and the stock yamaha pulse is not off the intake either.

Re: Fuel pump on clone engine
I use the same pulse pump on my 18 hp vanguard and on my 16 hp clone. Got it from Tom at CPP. Works great with no problems.
