Default Clutch set up's 101

I've searched and can't seem to find what I and members need to know about clutch set up's or dialing them in. Maybe this thread will allow us to get all we would like out of our set up's. Looking forward to replies. Dave

My cart, with the 20hp Briggs (cam/rev kit/advanced key/twin Mikuni's) seems not to "engage" till 1700 rpm? Don't have the number on the belt right now, but i've tried several. I have the stock Yamaha spring seat/spring set at "B4". Stock Comet 780. Any suggestions for a better "Launch"? I see some guy's doing wheelies, I don't want that on this cart, but would like to get the engine power to the diff as best as I could. Thanks Dave

I have not tried to dial one in..... but doesn't the 780 boast that it can be dialed in by changing the Number of or weight of the cogs? Lighter for quicker or earlier engagement?

Part true True Dog the lighter weights will raise the engagagement but when you change the weights it will affect the running rpm during shift out. The heavier weights squeeze the driven closed and load the engine faster. A good thing if the engine has the HP to pull it through.
I could go on and on. Don't even mention helixes.

Hex lines are the the ones you make when you miss measure on the last piece of trim you have to finish the job

The drive clutch controls engagement 3 ways, shape of the **** arm(steep angle, notches or flats), weight of the shift arm(the weight can be shifted in and out) and spring rate.
Once the drive clutch is shifting out the driven starts to control acceleration in two ways, the spring prewrap and rate and the angles of the ramps on the helix.

THis is good stuff .... but I think hex lines are the things you cross to work when fortune tellers strike

So .... can we buy different arms or weights to play with the clutches we have or do we need to find different clutches?
