Vanguard;electric starter or pedalstart?
I'm thinking ahead and saving for my next project.I sure like the idea of building a BB . I think I would like the convience of just jumping on my cart and go.What are you BB guys using to start your cart? Any drawbacks to a pedal start other than maybe someone flooring it

Re: Vanguard;electric starter or pedalstart?
Most, if not all use the V-twins with the starter on them. I dont know if I have ever seen a pedal start big block. (not like factory) Only thing that would worry me would be wearing out the starter using a pedal start like stock..

Roady is your concern the power of the stock starter not being enough or the rpm a big block could make. Hours of riding would be hours of riding with either engine I would think.

Re: Vanguard;electric starter or pedalstart?
Mine is key start, like a car. When on my cart at the campground I stop all the time to say hi to someone or to talk for less than a minute, my cart is idling. I don't turn it off all the time. If I had a pedal start, I probably would have replaced the starter by now.

Re: Vanguard;electric starter or pedalstart?
Can the "vannies" idle quietly? Mine too will be only used in a campground. Also, do they typically start right up when warm or do they crank for a bit?
I would at least like to give the impression of a stock cart |

Re: Vanguard;electric starter or pedalstart?
Depending on the exhaust you use, they can run very quiet. My 18 starts very quick, when warm just touch the key. I haven't used the choke in 3 + years.

Re: Vanguard;electric starter or pedalstart?
WIth a big block, I'd stay with a key start. I don't know how you could make the starter a pedal start, then shut off while driving?
Not that it can't be done, but I'd ask why? |

Re: Vanguard;electric starter or pedalstart?
Rember the post of the ST480 some are pedal and some are key!! I dont think that if you can hook it up right then there should be no problem!! but then again I dont know if the starters can handle some of the BB's?
