Any ideas on how to get grease off drive belt?
After my tune up I am spinning the belt bad under load. I can feel the motor rev up with no tire spin going up a hill
I Cleaned the sheaves up when I had it apart and it would spin the tires instantly. After running for a couple of minutes. the sheaves got slippery and would spin. Going to take some sandpaper to to the driven and drive sheaves tomorrow morning after I wake up any body have other ideas besides get a new belt? I am also looking at building a dirt and oil shield to separate the motor and drive system. |

Where is this oil coming from? Just from an experimental point of view .... brake clean just about evaporates oil

Re: Any ideas on how to get grease off drive belt?
the valve covers were leaking before and got oil on everything. I black RTV'ed them and torqued them to spec. No more oil from the valve covers.
however, the belt seems to have soaked up a bunch of oil. I am also not sure if should dial in some more preload on the driven sheaves |

Prolly get a fresh belt? And clean the sheaves up.... sorry to say but, if the oil is in the belt then it will keep coming out as you use it , NO?

Re: Any ideas on how to get grease off drive belt?
If you see a telephone company truck, or better yet..a telephone splicer contractor..either one, just stop and ask them if they have any cable solvent.
First, they will think you are pretty cool..because you know what cable solvent is..then once you explain to them about "csason" ..well, maybe you should leave that part out... Anyway, just ask them if you can bum a little.. (it comes in small white plastic 1 gallon containers) Anyway, it is a very special blend of citrus and other non caustic juices... A few years ago, they started using it to clean 'icky pic' off of telephone cable.. It is excellent for what you are talking about. It will cut the grease, but leave your belt unharmed. All you need is one decent sized rag soaked in it..or maybe a plastic soda bottle to transport it home to use.. just ask, they will spare you some.. |
