650 Burgman in a 1992 clubcar
Hi guys,
My FE290 is smoking like a chimney and I was looking at getting a big block kit from CPP. I was looking around for a quad or snow machine motor and came across a wrecked low milage 650 burgman scooter for 500 bucks. the rear end is fine and the motor runs great. I know I will have to flip the rearend and make new motor mounts, but I'm thinking 650CC's, belt drive and still having reverse would be nice. I don't know what kind of horse power it puts out or if this is even possible so give me your input/ pro's and con's I swapped motors in a 1981 honda civic to 1.8L accord motor when I was 19. I did a V-8 RX-7 swap when I was 27. I used to go the shop where my dad worked after school every day from 8 years old till 9th grade. I have the fab skills so what road blocks do I face with this cart/drivetrain combo. thanks |

I'd do it.As long as you have all the wiring for it.The only challenges with a club car is the drive being on the other side and if you can weld aluminum.I had a friend with a 650 burgman and I always kidded him that if he wrecked it,we were putting it in my cart.He would cruise at 70 on the highway without any problems.Shuld work fine in a cart and I don't see where you could go wrong for $500. EFI,44 horse, automatic trans are all positives.I would make an adapter for the driven clutch shaft and do away with the belt clutches and run it direct drive off the motor.Sounds cool.

A question, and this is not at you frt96, I see a lot of bike sled engine mods coming through in the last year and ask where do they ride how often do they ride. I had to have the baddest sled in my group and welded together 2 500CC engines long before the big 4 were building 650s. It was bad butt mean and a lousy thing to enjoy a week end on.

With that motor being an automatic, it should be a very usable cart if you get the rear gearing right. It would be just like a cart as it would shift itself as the speed increased. You would just have to get the right gear for the rear axle adapter.I couldn't remember if it was shaft drive? That would present a whole 'nother thing there.Might be easier though
