Default cart rear end conversion to drive shaft

is there an adapter that could be used inplace of the clutch on a gas cart?
would it be better to use an electric or gas rear?

Use electric or gas rear end for what? Need more info as to what you want to do and where you would like to that this build. Pics of existing rear end may help too.

i want to remove the clutch from the kart rear end, and if the pinion is splined, try and find an adapter that will fit. have you ever seen how the drive shaft is hooked up to the engine in a dwarf racing car, they remove the sprocket from the trans. then those guys have an adapter that bolts on and replaces the sprocket, and has a yoke or ears or what ever you call it so as to accept the u joint and there you have it. a drive shaft,
out of a 600 or 1000cc motorcycle eng. i want to try and build a mineature dirt super late model.

Mule, I got something you might be interested in, it's a late 80s Columbia (they were Harley's) cart frame I was going to do about the same thing your talking about. I had decided last year to abandon this project, just to many irons in the fire. but it has a ring&pinion rear 6to1 ratio I believe with a squared off flange on the pinion that the driven clutch bolted to. The front is an single a-arm with a mono leaf spring rack&pinion set up. I can get some better pics if your interested in it.

Why dont you just remove the secondary clutch off of the (gas) rear end, then weld a sprocket to the shaft. that way you could mount the engine traditionally, and then run a chain from the sprocket on the engine to the sprocket on the rear end. you would also get to keep foward and reverse too. make some shift cables and then your ready to go. add some high speed gears to go real fast

carolina-mule...I used an old style electric ez-go read end. I cut the end off the motor to get the spline connection. Then put it in a lathe and turned it to accommodate a u-joint from Surplus City and TIG welded it on. Now I have a rear end that I can hoock my tranny to by means of a 1" round shaft (for driveshaft). Or I can put larger tubing over the outside and have a driveshaft that measures about 2.5". The rear end was the type where the motor set perpindicular to the rear end. Let me know if this helps you.
