Default New pictures of 18 hp briggs build

Okay, Here are the latest of my briggs 18 hp opposed build. I have been successful at cutting off the end of an old Yamaha G9 crank and having it bored to 1". Then I soaked it in boiling motor oil for 15 minutes. This expanded it enough to get it started on the engine shaft. After that we heated the Tapered shaft and forced it onto the Briggs shaft, never to come off again. Thankfully I have a machine shop were I work. More pictures to come as I proceed. Next step is to install the engine. View the attached pictures.

Flintrock. Thanks! It is a lot of motor and I like to do projects in the winter months. It runs surpisingly quiet with the stock mufflers from a Sears tractor that will be routed to the back of the cart. Most of the time I'm putting around the lake just enjoying the summer days. I rarely have any reason to go fast. I know it will probably do only 18 - 20 mph, but that's okay with me. I plan on trying to dress up the engine some so as to make it look good for the golfcart show this summer. I already have a chrome air cleaner for it.

Essness. Thanks!! More pictures to come next week! I wonder what a machine shop would charge to do something like that? It took him about 1 hour to do. Does anybody know?

Bringing an old post back to the top. How does that opposed motor feel? Does it have a lot of power, torque I mean?

clayfor,

when you had your tapered shft milled did you have the 1 '' bore go all the way through so that it would basically just be a really tight sleave on the briggs shaft allowing the clutch to slide on and be bolted in place? nice idea. wish i had thought of that 2 months ago. going out to the garage asap to look at the shaft on my club car motor. thinking about stealing your idea. what could go wrong?

No, I had it bore the first 1/2" 0.02 over sized, then the 1" bore all the way through. That allowed me to get it started onto the 1" shaft. That worked out great. Now I'm just having troubles getting an exhaust made. Thanks.
