after purchasing new briggs20 hp engine and comet clutch decided not to make the swap--mainly with young kids would be driving cart and secondly because don't have the skills for engine cradle-does any one know a rebuilder and thoughts of making more hp out of my 295cc--or what about a 13-14hp new honda ohv single cyl. do you think it would make more torque than a juiced stock motor????????????? need some suggestions

Re: big block chicken
I agree with Shawn & Smallblock, as for the engine cradle, what kind of cart is it couldn't you use one from carts parts plus? Seems a shame not to use it when you already have it. But ultimatly it's for you to decide.

Re: big block chicken
With carts being legalized on the road around here, kids are not even allowed to drive them. In fact, they are pushing for licensed drivers only at this point. And judging how some people control their kids, it's probably a good thing.
Kudos to you for realizing it. Maybe do like Culo has done & build yourself a badass big block cart, and all the family members their own carts. |

Re: big block chicken
well I called carts parts plus and no one makes a engine cradle for my cart. I have a marathon utility cart like air junky's marathon only with a bed on the rear. I guess I'll sell the B/S vgard and clutch. I found someone to rebuild my 295cc to a 360 or 375 for around $700--- or I found a 16hp single cylinder that has electric start, makes 3600rpm and I was told makes a ton of torque. this engine is on ebay for $369.00 does any one know about these motors??
what rpm does a stock motor make and what is your thoughts of am overbore stock motor with a hot cam???? And thanks for all the suggestions!! |

Re: big block chicken
Stick with the stock motor there is fab required to convert to any other motor which it sounds like you are not wanting to do...... So a rebuilder would be the way to go ......

Re: big block chicken
I haven't found an easy cradle mod to fit an aftermarket motor in the Marathon yet.
Frankly I am limiting how hopped up I go with the Marathon. At some point I'll have way more money in it than it's worth. As far as I can tell that limit is about $2000. |
