18 hp Vanguard for $150 need info
This guy wants to trade me a horizontal 18 hp Vanguard that is running for a softball bat I own. I think they are getting rid of old equipment and one of the engines is on a concrete cutter and the other is on a hydraulic pto style unit. The bat is worth about $150, so this is a good deal in every aspect. My question is gonna be the output shaft, muffler, etc.... that will come with. It will be complete with fuel tank, muffler etc.... What output shaft do I need for it to have to do a swap into my 90 CC or any golf cart for it to work?
What size shaft? How long does the shaft have to be? How short can it be or not be? Does it need a key way? I dont know what clutch I will use but what options do I have with what shaft? I called cartsplus but they were busy so I posted here for some info until they call me back and maybe this will answer a question for someone else |

Re: 18 hp Vanguard for $150 need info
my kohler ch25s came off of a concrete saw, it had a 1 1/8 shaft with a 1/4 keyway and if i had used a 1190 would of worked right away. i did machine it to 1" so i could use more clutches. I have i guess you would have to see when you look at it.

Yeah I he is gonna take it off so we can see what the shaft looks like. What sux is at times you find a good deal only for a small part to not make it all work correctly.

Look close at the one off the hydraulic pto unit, that's the same kind I got, probably had an easier life than the concrete cutter motor. decipher gave oyu good info on the shaft, obviously make sure it's horizontal. Take a caliper along and see if you can get to the shafts to measure, a 1" diameter would be a plus right now. I would not worry about the gas tank or muffler, you won't need them.

Re: 18 hp Vanguard for $150 need info
I edited my first post as they both are horizontal shaft motors & he wants to trade me for the pto one he said as it is easier for him. I saw the shaft and it is either 3/4" to 1" or around that diameter. The shaft goes into a fat piece of metal then connects to the hydraulic pto. I should of taken a pic & I do have a caliper at home I will bring to get the shaft size as it looked straight to me, but I couldnt see a key way though. Now what if it is a short shaft or how short is too short for a clutch?

Should not be a problem if it was on a hydraulic pump.......
