Default Comet 780 TROUBLE

I have an '03 EZGO, 18hp. Vanguard, CPP mount, pipe, rev kit, 780 Comet, new driven clutch, new belt. Worked very well for about 35 hrs. and I began having trouble with the clutch not opening up all the way. I've had it off, the cover off............ nice and clean, looks new. I can put the end of a length of 1"x2" on the belt and drive the clutch cheeks apart so the belt slips like it's supposed to at idle. Drive the cart around and the clutch cheeks pinch the belt and it won't clear so I can shift into gear. I can take the clutch off and drop it on the floor from about 6" a couple of times cover side down and it will open up. It doesn't seem to have any spring pressure to open it that last fraction of an inch. Is there some way to tune this? Is the clutch defective? Pretty short service life if it's worn out .... wasn't cheap. Sure could use a cure. NOT HAVING MUCH FUN WITH THIS!!

Have you contacted CPP with a question about this? I bet not .... They take care of their customers

Well if dropping it on the floor several times didn't work the only other option is to back over it with the left rear tire of a blue 63 Chevy truck, stepside only!

What about put it on a stump and hit it with a BFH ? That's gotta be an option

He doesn't actually state that he got everything from CPP, maybe the clutch came from somewhere else?

Rust, pull the clutch and take it apart. You may have something (string) caught on the shaft inside that is binding the sheave and keeping it from opening.

sounds like string or grass stuck in the clutch. You should be able to move that clutch to full open with your hands.

Crash, I don't have a blue '63 Chevy stepside but I do have a blue '67 Chevy stepside, will that work? Bonking it on the floor a little seemed to be the only way to get it to open completely. It ALL came from CPP. I talked to Tom this morning and he said possibly the bronze bushing has shifted or maybe a piece of trash is stuck inside where I can't see it. He told me to send it back to him OR take it apart myself. Said they'd sold 5 or 600 of those clutches with very few problems....LUCKY ME! Taking it apart probably wouldn't be a problem.... wonder how big a fight I'd have with those springs putting it back together. I don't have a press, just a BIG vise. Thanks for the responses.
