Shortest shaft length can be
What is the shortest the ouput shaft can be on a BB engine swap so you can use a stock clutch and/or an aftermarket clutch? Does the shaft have to be atleast a certain length for the clutch to mount properly and work in a cart.... 1" 2" 3" or???? Would like to know for both clutchs if anyone knows. Now if you wanna what cart, CC and ezgo if it really matters.

It depends on the type of shaft on the engine. If it is a straight keyed shaft 3" would be my minimum. Just because the clutch has so much weight on the outer edge and with the pull of the belt it can wobble or even bend on a shorter shaft. On a taper shaft it's only about 1.5-2" and thats fine. It must be a 30mm 1:10 taper (short and fat) , not a generator taper (long and skinny). Taper shaft clutches are much thicker internally and less likely to bend, where a straight shaft is bored all the way through and needs the reinforcement from the engine shaft to keep stable. Does that answer the question? Taper shaft is the stock clutch and straight shaft is most aftermarket clutches. |
