Vangaurd Install
I have already put my Vangaurd in but i did it just for a short period of time. On 1997 - up CC's the rotaion it clock wise and this Vangaurd is CCW. This causes me to run in reverse giving me about a 11 mph top speed. So after my motor sells i'll be getting a kit from a un-known source that fixes my porblem and will give me high speed gearing. That is why i made this post, to upload my porgress as i go....
Also, any of you runnug 18 hp Vanagurds, how did you hook up your throttle cable? Mine just goes stright to the motor. I had a govenor arm on the back and i just zip tied it to my gear cable support. Once i had done this i realized a slight speed in crease. I will also be roming the govenor completely. Please, any tips are welcome. Thanks Here a pic of the motor now: I also can't seem to get my old clutch off my old motor with my impact wrench and a puller, any ideas? |

One reason your getting such low mph is your using too narrow of a drive belt. I can see by looking at your clutch your belt is only climbing about half way up the clutch, I'm sure thats because your using the stock sized belt. You need to get a Comet secondary and use a 1-3/16" wide belt, that will help a lot! I dont have the Comet part number for it but I bet someone around here does.

Frank, Yes i know that i will gain some speed with a wider belt, but i am buying the kit for Hondas on 1997-up CC;s to give me HS gearing and the correct rotation. I am only using this for now untill i get the kit. Thanks for the reply... I did at one time buy the 1 3/16 driven clutch but it wasnt designed correctly and didnt go all the way on the shaft because the key was too long. Long story...

Ok im having a shaft made for my cart to go on the flywheel, so i need to know how long the shaft has to be, what kind of keyway, how long a key way, does the clutch have a key built in? Pease give me any info. I have a Comet 94C
Also, how wide (diameter) is the driven clutch shaft on the driven clutch, Not on the tranny becasue i want to put a 3/16 spacer inbetween the 2 faces so i can run a 1 3/16 belt... Thnaks |

Bell crank is the govoner bypass I do believe. As far as the shaft, measure the length of the one on the crank, and there is your length. Key way is a 1/4 inch. thats 1/4 wide and 1/8 deep! Its only half as deep due to the keystock being 1/4 wide by 1/4 tall.

Stock shaft is 2-29/32". Let's just say 3". If you want some extra room for air to pass around the clutch, I would say it needs to be at least 4 1/4" would be ok. The keyway is 1/4". It is just a piece of 1/4" steel stock that you can cut to whatever length that works for your application.
Also, I don't know about that 3/16" spaceer on the driven clutches. I think it would work at low speeds only, but when the clutch starts to expand the spacer will cause problems. |
