Re: mufflers
I did a clone 16hp single, and we put a smaller car muffler on it. Likely off maybe an older grand am best I can tell. Anyway its a cheap oval turbo muffler not a standard that I am sure would be more quiet. It kind of thumps in this low tone like half a Harley that actually had a muffler on it since none around here seem to. Its sort of like a slightly louder kohler single in a lawnmower, but a big single cylinder sound it bellows. Its not that loud riding it, has a much lower tone than ATVs, its a thumper. It seems to get louder at idle. Also if you put a tailpipe on the muffler like this one does not have, it makes the muffler quieter. Finding a quiet muffler that will flow plenty for 20hp is a difficult task I have come up with little except maybe generator mufflers and such. Car mufflers are way cheaper if you can fit one you can get one for like $30 compared to over 100 for larger small engine mufflers. Even the larger lawnmower mufflers are not that quiet, and then it sounds like a lawnmower. A chambered muffler will be quieter, most turbo mufflers are built like glass packs inside with perforated tubes through packed glass and they take out high frequencies but not so good with low tones. They flow more but not like you need worry with 20hp and a car muffler. NewGuy used a VW (as in air cooled) dual outlet muffler, it sounds cool and looks great, but not the quietest if you want that. You can use a stock muffler, but best would be to build some kind of header into a muffler. You will get free extra power and rpm if you can keep the airbox/intake and exhaust free flowing. That means larger than the carb ahead of the carb and around 1" pipe off the cylinders into a larger flowing muffler.

Re: mufflers
Be cheap like me and make one. On my yamaha I order one for 300.00 and it didn't work. Had to cut and weld the hole D-- thing, so on the E-z go I just made it and it works fine for spending 10 bucks.Steel wool didn't cut it but your loc. motorcycle store has the right stuff for $7.00.

Re: mufflers
The fiberglass packing is pretty cheap you just need tubing inside with lots of holes in it. However they usually don't make it that quiet, a chambered muffler is usually better at that. We used to repack 2 stroke pipes all the time it made them louder and faster....if you pack them really tight, so don't do that if you want it quieter lol.
