Big Block Ready!!
i bought a vanguard 18 hp off ebay the other day with 1 hour of runtime for $590!! (go me)! hope its the right engine, i know its 1 inch shaft with 1\4 keyway, electric start. im putting it in a g9. what i wanted to know is will my factory belt work, and what clutch is cheap but good? i wondered if its possible to pull the front tires, i know for that ill need a tourquey clutch, what do you pros recommend? is their any wiring thats not cut and dry? i was also hoping someone had a pic of a fabbed up motor mount assuming ill have to build one........pics to come when i start the build!! thanks guys!

Re: Big Block Ready!!
Good deal, go get a rev kit for it and you will be set...for a while lol. If you set a clutch to engage higher sure you can pull the front, but it may not be nice to drive that way you have to find an in between. Just get a clutch with a spring you can change or shim. I'm not sure now if comets are still made or not see the sticky at top here.
You might keep the stock belt if you lift the motor higher, but cart must be lifted and you might have to drop the cradle at the body for clearance. Some of the belts are not that different in price. |

Re: Big Block Ready!!
Hey BC, congrats on the BB! You won't regret it once it's up and running.
Call CPP (Cart Parts Plus) for the engine cradle. I would also get their rev kit and consider removing the governor and if the budget allows their header and muffler. If the engine comes with a wiring harness you should be just fine, very straightforward. You WILL need a different belt. Again, if you get their cradle their belt should work. It didn't on mine but I had some other things going on. Good Luck, take pics and let us know how it's going...... |

Re: Big Block Ready!!
so your saying ill need a diff. belt if i use the existing motor mount? with the cpp cradle i can use the stock belt? i plan on probably make my own and make the shaft the same distance from the rear end as stock. what exactly does the rev. kit do, is it worth the money, im on a tight budget with my 3rd kid on the way.

Re: Big Block Ready!!
There just isn't much too attach a big motor to the G9 frame, so you will need to buy a make some kind of cradle, and drop the whole swingarm down so it sits fairly level. And you just won't get that big motor the same distance C to C as the old one so you WILL need a longer belt. The rev kit allows the engine to rev safely past 3800 or so rpm's, which if you take the governor off is where your new found speed capability will come from. You don't have to, will still have ton's of torque but it's not that big of an investment, much easier to install with the engine out, and a lot more fun!

Re: Big Block Ready!!
A rev kit was like just over $100 last I looked, just valvetrain parts that will not break if you wind it way up.
I got the clone to fit with stock belt, look at my clone specs thread in the yamaha gas section. It has a lay down cylinder like the Vs, but maybe it is different I don't know. It just misses the governor shaft in the trans, and it is actually higher than the stock engine. |
