Default Briggs tapered shaft???

I am looking at a used 16hp briggs the guy says it has a tapered shaft does anybody know if it would be the same taper as a yamaha g9 would I be able to use the stock clutch with out any adapters?

Typically that is a generator taper that is different from the Yamaha (and everything else). There have been a few guys here that either had enough to cut off the taper, or made their own adapter. I think one went as far as replacing the crankshaft with a straight one.

if you find a briggs engine with a tappered shaft, this is what it would look like for and ezgo clutch. i bought this one on ebay a couple of years ago.

This is a picture of the shaft does it look right? the motor looks a little older than I was hoping for.

That crankshaft is tapered for a generator. Different taper than what you need for an Ezgo/Yamaha/snowmobile clutch. It will not work without some serious work. If you have a buddy with a machine shop he might be able to rig up an adapter for you. Other folks here might be interested in purchasing such an adapter if it can be produced. If you have to hire a machine shop to make one, it probably will cost more than getting the correct engine to begin with.
