Default Reverse rotation Vanguard

Guys - what would it take to reverse the rotation of a Vanguard, a custom ground cam.....anything else?

Don't think so, but you would have to re-time the flywheel to advance the mags instead of the retarded mounting they would have in reverse....unless you moved the mounts. Don't know if the lifters are off center or if that would matter, is only other thing I can come up with. You would also have to come up with a way to start it backwards.

Yep it would take a custom cam to get the valves re-timed and then reverse the starter motor, but another major problem these are pressurized lube systems, they have an oil pump. Running backwards=no oil pressure so you would have to re-gear in there too. Sounds expensive and a ton of work. A different trans axle would be a lot easier and cheaper, assuming that's the problem now.

That's the problem, I like the transaxle - it has a shift on the fly locking differential.

Turn the engine around and run a jackshaft. Yeah I forgot the twins have an oil pump the singles do not, though a single may not splash properly backwards.

I don't know if you could hook a clutch to the flywheel or not, that is a lot of stuff flying around....but a lot of equipment does run off the flywheel side my 20hp mower does.

I'm following those threads too. That method has its challenges, standard exhaust wont fit for one. And I'm not sure how much of a BB 'kit' would still be usable, or if it's all custom fab work. Although it still may be easier & cheaper.

I was just thinking out loud - thanks for chiming in guys!
