G9 BB Starting Question
Hi, New to site. I have a Yamaha G9 already lifted and bolt on polished goodys. I am thinking hard about putting in a bb. Can any one tell me if I will be able to have it start as it does now with foot peddle or will it be like a car on or off. Also my G9 motor runs perfect, can any one tell what it would be worth, is there much of a market for these?

Re: G9 BB Starting Question
Welcome to BGW!
On my G9 I went with the 18 hp kit from CPP. It starts with the key like a car and just like a car, you can stop in gear and idle with your foot on the brake. Shifting is no problem from forward to reverse with the engine running and foot on the brake. Yes there is a market for your old engine, check out the for sale section. |

Re: G9 BB Starting Question
Thanks for the info. The shifting was my concern with the motor running. I have tried with the stock motor and does not work well. I to am looking at a kit from cpp. Wounder if it is worth the extra $250.00 for the 23 horse kit. Will post pics as soon as I can.

Re: G9 BB Starting Question
Which ever one you go with definitely get the high rev kit, it's cheap insurance.

Re: G9 BB Starting Question
I don't really know much about the purpose of the hi rev kit. What do mean by cheep insurance? What could happen without it? I had not planned on it, I felt like the hp upgrade would be enough.

A friend of mine let his son take out his 18 hp G9, no rev kit. When the kid got towed back he swore he didn't over rev the engine. It sucked a valve into one cylinder and the piston jammed it into the head. Needed $350 just in parts. (this engine had no governor) |

Re: G9 BB Starting Question
Ya, that makes sense. Is this something that can be installed by the average back yard mechanic or better to let them do it?
Do you know any thing about the timing advance and the cam kit they offer. Sounds like I would be better off to get 18 hp with upgrades than stock 23 hp. "limit one funds" |

Re: G9 BB Starting Question
I would take the 18 with rev kit over the 23 without. RPM's get you your speed, and you will want to rev that baby once you have it! If you tell me you want to pull stumps all day or move boat trailers around then go for the 23 stock. The 18 is plenty of horsepower and the rev kit will allow you to make the most out of it. I haven't done the cam yet either, but to be honest I don' think I will. I just don't need to. I did the timing advance and the rev kit myself, but I bought a used motor. For the money I would let CPP do it if I was buying it new. Good Luck with the decision!

Re: G9 BB Starting Question
Thanks guys for all the input. I think I will go with the 18 and do the upgrades. "Not pulling any boat trailers" Here in WV we are legal to ride on the back unmarked roads. We take the four wheelers and the cart riding on 30-50 mile trips. So I'm sure it will get revd up plenty. Did you guys do any upgrades to the secondary clutch or tranny?
