Gearbox Identification
I bought this F-N-R gearbox a few years ago on eBay then went another direction with the project it was originally intended for (desert kart). Now I'm thinking of putting it behind a 13hp clone in the resurrection of a cannibalized carryall and am curious what its pedigree might be. I was told at the time of purchase that it was from a small snowmobile. There are no markings or tags. The bolt pattern at the base is 4x6 inch. The driven pulley is 10" in diameter. and the sprocket is a double row, 18 tooth, #35. The brake disk is 6" in diameter. The push-pull shifter is on the front and both fwd and rev are 1:1 ratio. Anybody out there in sled country recognize this from days past? Not many snowmobile shops in San Diego to go to for info. I appreciate all responses.

Don't know, Looks cool, I'd like to have it. If you find out what it is please let us know. Would work great with a live axle.

I will. My curent plan is to come off the gearbox with the double chain at a 2:1 ratio to a full width 1" jackshaft. 20" long swing arms will pivit about the jackshaft with independant #50 chain drives running down the inside of the arms and providing another 2:1 ratio of reduction. With zero moment to the center to center of the jackshaft to axle drives the chain length remains constant through it's arc of travel. I'm still dithering on choice of clutch, low RPM and 1" straight crankshaft kind of limits availability of used stuff and the new, pretty things out there kind of rankle my cheap old fart nature. I'll do some more engineering over scotch and cigars this weekend in the desert. Thanks for lookin' I'll stay in touch.

May well be from a 6 wheeler. Argo brand or other. They were centrifical to chain and needed several chains to run the 6 drive chains, and the brakes were never at the axle.
