Default Clutch question

When you cut down the crankshaft for 16 HP Vanguard to mount the clutch are you suppose to drill and tap the crank to the original Yamaha bolt or the threads that are already in the Vanguard shaft? I am using the original Yamaha clutch. I have the CPP taper kit for the clutch

I would stick with the Briggs thread. Seems like it would be easier when re-cutting the original threads, you shouldn't have to drill too much of them off. Make sense?
and if you don't have to remove much of the stock shaft maybe you would still have enough original thread to just use a shorter bolt, no tapping required.........
