Default Honda GX620

I may be finally taking the plunge. I found a new "old stock" GX620 at a good price. It has only a 2 amp charging system. Would that be enough or do you use the alternator on the cart already? It's 98 a Club Car DS.

I am also told that I have to change the Clutch and Drive clutch to handle the extra power. The motor has a 1" straight shaft that I was going to buy the tapered adapter for it only.

Any other thing I can think of, is where I can find headers for the GX620.

If i'm not mistaken, you have to run your cart in reverse all the time or install a jackshaft. I think the Honda GX620 runs counter clock wise, and starting in 1997 CC trans axles and engines are clock wise rotation

I've heard that too. Is there any problems with that performance or mechanical wise other than the shifter would be reversed?

I have heard of attatching a shaft to the flywheel, and that would rotate in the right direction.

For a vanguard you can buy a shaft stub that mounts on the flywheel, but not sure any one here has run one? There is a thread about it here you may have to do some digging it was a year ago or something. If honda does not have one you could have it made it was just a 1" keyed shaft. Not sure I would recommend it for a cammed engine that ran high rpm.

2A is not much, it may be ok with very limited use of any accessory you put on it and you don't start it constantly (short trips). Also they charge less at low rpm usually. I just read about using the old GM alternator you can buy a reman cheap, they are 40-60A or whatever you just need to mount a pulley for it and brackets. Sure you can use the original generator too.

I got it and paid $500 for it. It is a 20 amp engine setup. Talked to CPP and they recommended the high speed gears since I will be running in reverse. Speed was not the issue but I wanted something that I wouldn't be afraid in doing hills.

CCP also said that the 620 would mount right in the existing cradle no problem but with some hole drilling to match. All I need now is an exhaust, clutch, driven clutch (1" straight shaft), high speed gears, and my mechanic to do some improvisation with the rest.

What would anyone recommend on the high speed gearing to get it to a respectable speed? If I can get it to 30+, I'd be happy, would that be possible?

My Jeep body shipped today and soon the CC will have a new Willys body ready for some olive drab paint

Oh got 20.5 x 10 x 10 on it. Thinking to put narrower tires that I found to go with the Willys look.

They might have different gear ratio for F and Reverse, that might be what he means I'm not sure. The old CC I put gears in went 28gps with that old flathead engine hitting the rev limit, with all stock tires/cart, in forward I didn't check reverse. It was like a 91 CC maybe, before the OHV engine IIRC one year before.

How about a jackshaft or the flywheel that is mentioned. like to know more about them so at least I know when I talk to guy who is going to put it all together for me. I like to keep it simple and worry free, maybe changing the gearing is all I need. like I said going 30 in the cart is plenty for me but again knowing you can do a lot better when needed is always a plus.

Maybe someone on the forum has just right setup or recommendation on what is needed.
