rear end ideas?
I just got this old motorcycle for a pretty good deal, its a 1981 yamaha seca. I have got it running and idling like new, the thing is that it has a shaft drive instead of a belt/chain, I was think about cutting the whole rear end out of my cart, and welding the frame from the motorcycle up and have it bolt to a cushmen rear end. any different rear end ideas? I heard an rx7, corrolla, or a cushmen rear end will work?

Re: rear end ideas?
Your gonna have to use a rear end with a reverse built into it. 4 cycle cart rear ends, or you can find them on https://www.surpluscenter.com/home.asp Just build an adapter and to do away with the shaft. Go to a belt or chain

Re: rear end ideas?
Where are you located? You're gonna need someone with a little experience in this one. Or a small machine shop to do the work. You can find right angle gear boxes on ebay or at Surplus Center. But you will need to machine adapters for the motor side. Out put sprockets should be available. But if you don't have some fabrication experience you are gonna need some help.

Re: rear end ideas?
Here is something ive been thinking about. On this idea I want to steal the oringal piece from the stock drive shaft that is on it now and weld it to the end of a piece of bar stock, then on the other end its gonna be a gear that lines up with another gear and bar stock, on the end of the second bar stock and gear there is gonna be a sprocket. Than ad a nice cover...
but anything better, would be alot of help or a axel that is cheap and will bolt to my stock drive shaft, |

Re: rear end ideas?
That is a right angle gear box exactly. With your dads help making the hubs to attach the shaft should be easy. Don't spend hundreds in man hours building the box itself when they are readily available. Your drawing is right on, minus the 4 bearings to support the shafts. Buy a made up box that will be a sealed unit to hold lube and simply bolt it in place and fab a hub to connect the shaft.

Re: rear end ideas?
I would guess in the photo they modded the rear wheel section of the drive shaft, but maybe not.
