cart plus big block carrier issue
Question, Has anyone with a CPP big block (24 HP) carrier mount have problems with leaf springs flipping the shackle?

Re: cart plus big block carrier issue
Some more info maybe im mistaken but the way the carrier is built it allows the carrier to move forward and backward because of the 3 heim joints in the front of the carrier.

It hard mounts to the axel with the u-bolts. So any movement of the axel is transfered forward to the heims. You still need to hard mount the axel (flipped) to the leafs with the square u-bolts. |

Re: cart plus big block carrier issue
Ess is correct.
If you are flipping the shackle the springs are probably sliding on the carrier. |

Re: cart plus big block carrier issue
Gonna jump in here as the cart is in my garage for modifications..1st need to say the carts primary use is off road 2nd there is some extra weight involved (not nearly what a rear seat with passengers would be) Sub woofer box and 2 large mids (like used on ski boats)..that being said here goes..the cart is lifted about 6" so rear axle is in a spring over configeration with a 1 1/2" WELDED riser (spring perch) springs were HD (4 leaf) with CENTERING bolt..square U bolts were all in drilled plates and torqued (could not slide as centering bolt was in drilled hole in perch) shocks were automotive type mounted at 16" centers (22" full extension) rear shackles in at rest position were at approximatly 45 degrees...now the strange part if a bump was hit (or even a person bouncing on the bag well) the shackles would pop over.. the center to center distance was checked for leaf spring (info from search in this site) and found to be 3/8" less than factory spec (difficult to think it was a cause) we are thinking that perhaps the dual articulation joint on the engine carrier allowed the carrier (and axle) to move toward the rear as when the leaf spring was flattened it"s center to center length would increase and as the carrier was able to move in a rearward motion resulting in the shackle flipping..open to suggestions ..

Re: cart plus big block carrier issue
I think pictures would be real helpful. I'm trying to visualize what your configuration is and I just cant.
This sounds much more like a suspension configuration problem than a problem with the engine cradle. But short of a picture I couldnr say for sure. |

Re: cart plus big block carrier issue
Cameras not working well will try it later..in a "spring over configeration" the leaf spring has been moved from under the axle tube to the top a spring perch is required it in turn is welded to the axle tube and it's where the leaf springs are setting/bolted ..probably the best way of raising the rear of a cart when a front lift kit has been installed..Longer shackles are another but not really a good answer allowes side to side play

Re: cart plus big block carrier issue
Why am I thinking this is a Club Car? I have done the axel flip on a couple of ez-go's, and mine has CPP's BB carrige. I just cant imagine how it can flip the shackles, if the leafs are mounted properly to the axel??
