Re: bigblock muffler
my thoughts were to get 2 small engine mufflers (about the size of a beer can) and run them like true duals the same as in a pick up or car

Re: bigblock muffler
Mine is quiet..I have a stock gen muffler on it at present, but will
be putting a header on it soon.. I will run as many mufflers as it takes to get it quiet.. |

Re: bigblock muffler
Thanks, for testing purposes I am using the muffler that came with the motor, planning on re routing pipes out the back , thinking of reusing muffler,it's not too loud just trying to make it quite as possible.

Re: bigblock muffler
Recently I plumbed this small car muffler under the rear of my '03 EZGO. Still not as quiet as I'd like it but it sounds MUCH better than the previous big lawnmower muffler . 18hp. Vanguard with a header, cam, and rev kit. The new muffler has a much deeper tone and the cam sounds pretty cool at idle. The muffler must flow good 'cause it didn't hurt the performance. The clutches make noise.(rattle) I used a copper 90 deg. 1" dia. plumbing fitting on the end of the header and fastened it together with muffler clamps.

Re: bigblock muffler
I put (or helped actually) a car muffler on a 16hp clone. It is a small 'turbo' muffler that looks like what RustyBucket used. It has a low tone it thumps, its about as loud as a kohler lawnmower a guy there has one it is similar. Its not that loud, I mean quieter than a side by side there but louder than a stock cart. It thumps a real low tone though, and has no tailpipe.
I'm doing another clone soon and will put a normal quiet car muffler on it, it should be close to stock cart is my guess. You do need a tailpipe on a muffler to get the full effect from one, so I plan to loop a 1" or so pipe back to the other side of muffler or similar. The headers they make for kart racing are 1" ID and this is stock, so that should flow plenty. There was a guy with 9hp generator mufflers on epay for 30 or something, they are larger, two I am sure would work well but take up some room. I can't find them now but long ago a friend put this glasspack on his truck and it was really quiet. I asked him what it was, he said oh its not a glasspack. I actually looked at them in the store they had a reverse flow inside a glasspack case. Could work on a cart but not finding them, they were really cheap too. |

Re: bigblock muffler
we used to run these on our 5hp racing engines.
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...31&FORM=IDFRIR that was off a straight header pipe. made it quiter and didn't rob your performance. use a muffler then use that as a tail pipe. I've never done this so I don't know what it would sound like. |
