Default CCP'S 23 hp big block kit

What would be the easiest way to hook up a tach to this kit?I have a trail tech speedo and tach and I wrapped a wire around the sparkplug wire like shown but I am not getting anything. Please help!!!

Doesn't it also have a ground wire?If so be sure it is properly grounded.

definitely has a good ground. I have tried both chassis ground and battery.I was wondering if in the bunch of wiring that it has that maybe tieing into one of them would work, or if maybe instead of wrapping the wire around the plug wire maybe I could attach an O ring type connecter that has a hole that is the size of the plug and putting it between the plug and the motor.

I've got a TinyTach & an Equos tach on mine, one sensor lead is wrapped around the front plug wire and the other around the rear wire, both are frame grounded and function great. You could have a defective tach

You really dont want to ground anything to the frame on a Yami. (sorry Mule) I dont know about the Trail Tech?? But my Eqqus has an inductive pick up.

Thanks ess,I'm not used to them foreign carts. But seriously why can't you use the frame for a ground on a Yamaha?

I dont really know Mule? I just know that when I frame grounded on my G16 it would pop the main fuse, every time And since I see everyone say not to ground to the frame for the same reason.

I found out the hard way last year about not grounding to the frame. Drove me crazy tracking down which fuse was the problem. I though I had a mystery short.

Quite simply because of the increased resistance to the lowest point of ground in the system. Think about it this way, when the cart is at rest and not running the lowest point of ground is the battery. When running the lowest point of ground is generator/alternator/magneto so there is increase resistance to ground that causes the amps to power a load to go up. Add in insulating factors such as motor mounts, smaller gauge wires the increase amperage to drive that load goes up.

The true test for this is called a voltage drop test. Check your frame ground with what ever load ya got to actual battery ground with your trusty volt meter. Anything over .30 volts means you do not have a good ground. HTH someone in the future.
