Default 18Hp KHOLER COMMAND Supe

Hi guys, i'm new to this forum, i bought a custom golf cart with a Kholer Command engine on it (18HP) i felt this engine kind of weak and slow. whats the fastest a cart with 18hp should go or can go. Maybe the engine needs to be refreshed? If so what do you guys recommend so i can make it faster and more powerful? I will be mainly using this cart in the sand dunes. I have around 500 dollars as my budget. Thanks.

just to compare,...I have a 98 cushman with a 14 hp Briggs,....a worn out drive and driven clutch,....the cart is 1400 lbs with 25" tires goes 24 mph. (with a good tail wind) I've seen some 18hps around here with rev kits performing well

There are a lot of variables that affect speed..the engine you are talking about
Certainly should have enough horsepower and rpms to get the job done if other things are in place.

Welcome to the forum, there is a ton of information here. I can only relay what I know from experience and how long my thumbs last on this phone.

it'd be nice if you could post a pic of the cart, describe it by model year and type. Some carts have lower gear ratio in the rear end..

Stock carts use a high rpm, but lower HP (than kohlers or briggs vtwins) and still get by for climbing the gentle slopes of the back nine.. but for hole shots and trying to scoot out of some deep sugar sand, they don't have the low end torque associated with big block motors. So when I put mine in I didn't get much more top end speed, in fact it always seemed to be struggling out on the road especially..like something wa
S dragging..but since I put 22" tires on it..it kind of hauls butt fast as I want to go..I use a briggs vtwin, 21 hp.
If you reallly want to see what its like to do 40 on a golf cart...install high speed gears in the rear end and pull the governor out of the engine (if it hasn't been) and put some headers on it..and add a 4-6 " lift and 23 - 25" tires and get back with me.

First though..lol, you really need to let us find out a little about the cart and see pics..
You MIGHT just have a slipping belt, or need a tune up.

Ok, it seems as the belt could be slipping but tonight when i get home ill post alot of pics so you guys have an idea.. its already lifted, well from the front because the back kind of looks stock.. its an older Ez-go Frame (i think) well that's what the guy who sold it to me said.

I have looked everywhere for performance upgrades to this type of engine but i have had no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to buying these upgrades? cams, carbs, headers etc

if you follow this link you can see pics of the golf cart.. ok i noticed that the spark plugs were garbage.. and another thing how tight is the belt supposed to be, i can squeeze in between the pulleys and make the belts touch is that too loose?
